Refurbish, Repurpose, E-Cycle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
In today’s modern world, technology is all around us. Most likely you are catching up on the news on your computer while at the same time texting on your smartphone. Or maybe you have the TV on in the background while your spouse is reading a book on their tablet. Technology surrounds us every day. But what happens to all those electronics that breakdown or simply become unwanted?
Yes, you can toss them in the trash and wait as they get delivered to the local landfill but most consumers are unaware of the toxic materials in the products that they use daily and the serious threat that it produces to the environment. Materials such as mercury, lead and different plastics filter into our soil and pollute the air around it. As a community, let’s take the proper steps to fix these issues with a program that we offer known as E-cycling.
What is E-Cycling? E-cycling is the practice of collecting, distributing, repairing, or reusing used electronic components rather than discarding them at the end of their life cycle. E-cycling conserves natural resources such as cooper, gold, and aluminum that can be used in other products. This process can cut down costs as well as pollution associated with future manufacturing. Did you know that recycling 1 million laptops saves the energy equivalent to the electricity used by more than 3,500 US homes in a year? (www.epa.gov)
